Cognex Computer Lab, Upper Level

The Cognex Computer Lab is open during Library hours. Internet access is available on Mondays from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The Cognex Computer Lab is made possible by grants from the Cognex Corporation and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Lab is open all other times for word processing and other non-Internet work.

Ongoing Computer Classes
Saturdays 10:00 am - 11:00 am  No classes during July 2008. Classes will resume in August 2008.
Cognex Computer Lab, Upper Level
Registration is requested, drop-in on space available basis

Basic Computer - 1st Saturday of each month
For beginners with little or no knowledge. Covers computer terminology, turning a computer on and off, basic functions of the mouse and keyboard and how to use Windows.

Basic Microsoft Word - 2nd Saturday of each month
For word processing beginners—should know basic computer and how to use mouse and keyboard. Covers basics of Microsoft Word, how to create a new document, edit your work and more.

Basic Email - 3rd Saturday of each month
For beginning email users—should know basic computer and how to use mouse. Covers how to start a free email account, read, compose, and send email, how to create an email address book. Participants should bring family or friends’ email addresses with them.

Basic Internet - 4th Saturday of each month
Should know how to use a mouse and keyboard. Covers how to maneuver and search on the Internet.

Library Catalog/Databases - 5th Saturday of each month
Should know basic computer and how to use a mouse. Covers how to use the library’s catalog to search for, reserve, and renew materials and to view your account; how to place an Interlibrary Loan request and generally explains the functions of the library databases.

Registration is Required:
However, drop-ins are accepted if space is available. Enroll at the Reference Desk on the second floor or call 508-647-6521. Names will be placed on a waiting list for each class. Each month classes will be filled from the waiting list. During the week prior to the scheduled class, enrollees will be contacted to verify attendance.

Individual sessions for computer assistance can be scheduled with a Library staff person on Monday afternoons (3:00 pm to 6:00 pm). To schedule a time or ask questions, please call Barbara Sanchez at 508-647-6520 or email bsanchez@minlib.net.

Cognex Computer Lab computers feature Microsoft Office Suite software. During Internet lab hours, a computer lab attendant is available to assist you. One-on-one instruction with a library staff person is also available. To schedule a one-on-one instruction session or to reserve a seat in one of the computer classes, please call the Reference Department at 508-647-6521.
